Practicing Life Together - The summer season affords some unique opportunities for us to live life with young people in our community. When we walk with kids and youth through a cycle of active participation and reflection, helping them try on communal living, creativity, service, leadership and other practices that move faith out of their heads and into our lives, we practice Christian living together. As Royal Lane has kicked off summer, our youth had the opportunity to attend camp, play, serve, and overall practice Christian living together. Coming up the last week of June, our children’s ministry is hosting a Vacation Bible School and Music/Arts Camp. It is geared toward offering kids, youth, and adults space to practice Christian community together.
I am grateful for the responsiveness of our Royal Lane community in preparing for Vacation Bible School. As of now, we have 33 kids registered, 11 youth volunteers, and 35 adult volunteers. For long term faith development, research reminds us that every young person needs a web of support that includes at least five nonparental adults relating to them in a healthy relationship. This week creates a natural context for fostering these kinds of life-giving relationships among peers and across the generations. My hope is that this week challenges us to be intentional with one another, helping each other to feel a sense of belonging that comes from Christ. Thank you for your witness and love with our kids and youth.
With all my love,
Beth Johnson
