Dr. Michael (Mike) L. Gregg earned a Bachelor of Religion degree from Belmont University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Mercer University. Mike comes to Royal Lane from Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia where he served as Associate Pastor.
Mike is a postmodern scholar. He devours books on emerging generations, especially Millennials. Mike’s publications reflect his interests in the postmodern church, simplicity, and the future of Christian Education in a changing world. The title of Mike’s doctoral thesis was “Becoming Strangers: Discovering the Presence of God by Receiving Hospitality in Communities Outside Northside Drive Baptist Church.”
Mike has been married to Amanda since 2003. They have two energetic and articulate daughters, Annaleigh and Beatrice. Mike is an artist with experience in graphic design and marketing, a singer and drummer, an Apple enthusiast, and an avid baseball fan.
Harry Wooten began his ministry as Minister of Music & Worship at Royal Lane Baptist in 1998. He is also the conductor and Artistic Director of the Irving Chorale. A native of Arkansas, he holds degrees from William Jewell College, Vienna International Music Conservatory and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served churches in Tennessee and Alabama as Minister of Music and appeared as guest soloist, conductor and presenter for numerous workshops and music events. He has served as the Repertoire and Standards chair of Sacred Music for the Southwest Division of the American Choral Directors Association and has served on the boards for both the Dallas Chapter of Choristers Guild and the Greater Dallas Handbell Association. The Faith and Arts Foundation at Royal Lane Baptist Church, begun by Mr. Wooten, provides rehearsal and performance space at no charge to many musical groups in the Dallas area and curates the Box-Hawkins art gallery which features ongoing exhibitions by local artists and a semi-annual juried art festival. He is the recipient of the “Award of Distinction” by the National Religious Music Week Alliance, 2004. His choirs have participated in the International Church Music Festival at Coventry Cathedral and Bern, Switzerland and the Manhattan Festival of Sacred Music. He has led concert tours through Italy, Ireland and Switzerland, and most recently to Barcelona, Spain to sing under the direction of celebrated conductor Craig Hella-Johnson in La Sagrada Famillia Cathedral.
Minister to Youth
Tim began serving Royal Lane as Minister to Youth on July 1, 2015. He earned his B.A. in Political Science from Boston University and is currently working towards earning his M.Div through Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. Tim and his husband John were married in December 2014 in Santa Barbara, CA. They relocated from Massachusetts to Texas in May of 2015 so that Tim could pursue his theological education. Shortly after relocating to Texas, Tim and John began attending worship at Royal Lane, and they are grateful for the way the congregation has welcomed and affirmed them!
Minister to Children
Laura began serving Royal Lane as Minister to Children on Jan. 1, 2015. Laura’s B.A. from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN is in Biblical Studies and Philosophy. She earned her M.Div from the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, CA. Laura is ordained through the American Baptist Churches-USA and followed her ministerial call into the field of chaplaincy. Laura served as a hospital chaplain in Sacramento, CA for seven years and is Board Certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains. Laura has always loved working with children – including teaching school for two years in Ramallah, Palestine and serving rural elementary schools in Southwest Utah through AMERICORP. She loves participating in the exciting things God does in the lives of all Royal Lane children and the amazing things our Royal Lane children have to teach and gift the whole congregation. Laura’s Royal Lane ministry is part-time while she fulfills her full time role as mother to Brodie, age 7 and Quinn, age 5. Laura and Matthew have been married 16 years and the family has one elder cat, Ms. Sebastian, age 15!
