Hurricane Harvey: More Ways to Help

Give to Covenant Baptist Church – Houston

For 52 years Covenant Baptist Church has affirmed the sanctity, dignity, and equality of all human beings. They welcome persons of all racial and ethnic heritages, all sexual orientations, all gender identities, and all faith perspectives.

Gifts to Covenant Baptist Church for Hurricane Harvey relief will be administered though the church’s Benevolence Fund which is overseen by the ministerial staff in consultation with the chair of deacons. Funds will be given directly to individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. I know this church and its pastor and know the funds will be well-used.

Partner with South Main Baptist Church – Houston

South Main has about thirty families affected from their congregation and are assisting with construction on about twenty of those households. South Main also has many individuals going down to the mega-shelters to help although currently they’re at capacity with volunteers. They expect that will change as people go back to work. South Main is continuing to figure out how best to support the four giant shelters close by: GHB has 10,000 and NRG Exhibition Hall has 10,000 and unknown numbers in the Toyota Center and BBVA soccer stadium. Also, in conjunction the CBF, South Main’s gym will be a place where out of town volunteer teams can stay while providing relief work.

Join with Other Faith Communities

And finally, several faith communities in the area are priming our resources and volunteers, readying ourselves for possible action. Royal Lane is joining with Wilshire, Broadway, FBC Greensboro, and several other churches to help when the time comes. If you would like to add your name to a volunteer list, please let me know at [email protected].
